Island of Dr. Moreau TTRPG: FINAL WEEK

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iodm/the-island-of-dr-moreau-ttrpg

The Island of Dr. Moreau TTRPG is in it's last week of funding on Kickstarter, still very far from its goal. If you like To Change at all, you will love IoDM.

It's a fresh campaign style game of animal transformation that use the To Change card drawing system, featuring a huge cast of colorful characters, and gorgeous sequences by all your favorite To Change artists inside a hefty 300-pg hardback book. Throw in a detailed map + shipping chart along with universal statblocks for all the characters and multiple genre fiction reskins. Rule your own private island as Dr. Moreau and subject players to to a host of immoral experiments while they struggle to escape your clutches.

We really need a big burst of support to make this game possible in the final stretch. You won't regret packing your bags for this vacation!

Hello, there! Still reading? Well with IoDM's funding still at a little over 60%, I'd really love if you scrolled back up and pledged your support for the project. Being in such a uncertain spot with only a few days left is never a position to envy in crowdfunding. My stomach is doing loops with anxiety, though maybe that's just the effects of the serum.

If you want to hear me ramble about why I love this game so much, please read on! I don't have much time until the changes take hold...

After To Change released, I started thinking about how to do a campaign game for To Change. It's a system designed for one-shots, so I knew there would need to be some major tweaks to the structure. I also wanted it to be a classic setting and I'd worked with Arania for some of the art in To Change. Arania's IoDM guild on GAIA Online still held a special place in my heart, even as the site that holds it crumbles away. To me, IoDM is pure classic TF magic, the way it combined the fantastical and the mundane. People warped beyond recognition, flooded with animal instincts, trapped on a hellish island, but... eh, life goes on! Hey, I wonder what that wolf guy is up to? Last I saw he was dating a hedgehog woman? But I heard the doctors brought in some new girl who was his fiancee? I bet that's awkward. Well, time to go down to the recreation center and see if they finally got Tony Hawk Underground for the GameCube like I asked. Oh right, I don't have thumbs anymore. Shit.

Like, yes, you are trapped on this island by an evil mad scientist who has total control of your life, and also your DNA, but that's all stuff in the background. You have bigger things to worry about, like learning how to slither on the ground, or learning what the cute guy who just got moved in downstairs thinks about talking snakes. Characters lived and breathed through their relationships, forming a rich tapestry of hookups, one-night-stands, affairs, bromances, and rivalries. People had multiple characters in the group at a time and sometimes played on both sides. The same person could be playing both your best friend and your cruel captor, but it worked because people were more invested in the storylines they were making together rather then 'winning.' So not only did I think IoDM was a classic TF setting, I saw in its core a wholly revolutionary type of TTRPG.

Well, not wholly. The idea of 'capsular' games was just turning the corner, with more and more TTRPGs being very good at giving the players and GMs a tightly focused experience without any need for prep. That style of game felt perfect for IoDM, where the game provides everything for you, from the characters you can meet, to the island you inhabit, to the events that happen each day. The player's relationships will be what make it special and it can nail that feel of chaotic multi-thread forum rp, now absent in the accent of Discord servers for everything.

When the idea was proposed to Arania after some initial playtesting, she was sold and I was so excited to make it happen. It is going to happen, whether through Kickstarter right now or slowly funded over many years by sales of To Change. Yes, every To Change sale goes right into getting more delicious TF sequences, I bet you never guessed that's where you money ended up. Its made it possible to get where we are so far and I really hope to carry the project a little farther over that finish line. Your support would mean a lot to me, Arania, and everyone working on this game, this experience we want to share with you.

You said you might open up 2 more slots for the Lab Staff tier, but have you considered opening up few more than that? I don't know if that would be too compromising for your vision, but that maybe the push to meet the goal.

It is something I've strongly consitered, but yes, we're not really breaking even on those slots, since having more then 5 Fresh Meat backer submitted characters will becomes a big drain on page space, which in turn costs a lot of money. It's something I'll be discussing with Arania in the final days of the campaign, and there will be an update before any of those slots open to give people plenty of time to prepare if they want one.

We decided to do exactly that. Tomorrow, June 3rd, three more slots will open at 11:00 AM PST, and the last two spaces will open at 9:00 PM PST. Thank you for the nudge.

Best of luck to you and your team this week. I'll even try to shoot for for one of slots.
